Prepare for the kind of awesome that might very well blow an appendage right off your body. This old Sprite commercial was submitted by Basketbawful reader Wild Yams, who said: "Speaking of awful commercials, I'd like to present my all-time favorite worst basketball commercial in which Kobe and Tim Duncan square off against each other with their posses for a rap-off, then Missy Elliot shows up to take over while Kobe and Tim play a game of one-on-one."

He is so not kidding. But I guess this is how you had to obey your thirst back in 1998.

Duncan's crew, all wearing the same shirt, looks like a team. Team Kobe on the other hand, street clothes.

Shirts against the blouses.

What's most impressive is that even though Duncan and Kobe only say their names, they still manage to prove they can't act or rap. Kudos for being able to demonstrate that by only uttering two syllables.

Kobe's rapping is beyond legendary. Meet the Thug Poet himself....

I know everyone is clowning on this but this is actually a take on a scene from the original hip-hop movie wild style. I think the fact they are doing a homage to old school hip hop like that is tight.

It's Kobe and Tim
Both games are tight
Grabin' points
Like they grab a Sprite!

I just wanna say, I'm not looking forward to tomorrow's whine-fest over the non-call at the end of Game 4. If the officials had called Fisher's shot off the rim correctly and reset the shot clock on the previous play, the blown (non-shooting, btw) foul on Barry wouldn't have even mattered. Oh well, bring on the conspiracy theories...

That commercial is hilarious - thanks for bringing it to our attention.

What are you people talking about? This is one of the all-time great basketball commercials in NBA history... it's a take from a scene in Wild Style... a classic hiphop film... the music that Missy is rapping to is from the film as well... youtube the original and you'll "get" the commercial.
