20110428-carl-landry-lamar-odomThe continuing saga of epic playoff man love

Here's an interesting link Skeets passed along on Twitter: What would Dwight Howard look like in other teams' jerseys? Because after Orlando's performance this year, this isn't looking too farfetched.

Nationally Televised Friday Games:
Spurs at Grizzlies, ESPN, 9pm (Grizzlies lead series 3-2): What'd Shane Battier have to say about tonight's game? "Ah, pressure, shmessure." Seriously. So you know this game's going to be severely intense. Will ESPN cut away if Pops loses his cool and throttles someone in the post-game press conference?

Nationally Televised Sunday Games:
Grizzlies at Thunder, ABC, 1pm (Series tied 0-0): And here we are. I wouldn't be surprised if Zach Randolph has some trouble in this game. He's going to be on edge after waking up in the middle of the night only to see Tim Duncan's stare. And I mean that in the literal sense. Tim Duncan will be standing over Z-Bo's bed, contemplating smothering him with a pillow for ending his last shot at playoff glory.

Celtics at Heat, ABC, 3:30pm (Series tied 0-0): Here is the only preview you need for this game.

Am i the only one who thinks that Howard might just end up at The Njets and we would get another Knicks situation?

My favorite part of that Beat-Celeries game (besides the fact that they changed all the names besides Rony Seikaly's) was the white Reggie Lewise and the black Kevin McHal.

Boston is gonna whoop that ass. Or it'll be another Memphis/S.A. Likely the former.

I totally thought of a different caption with the man love.

I know its probably a pipe dream, but is there any chance D-Howard would play for the Spurs?

Easily, this is the reason as to why Basketball isn't that popular in Japan.

I don't want to go all Bill Simmons "I need excuses for my season tickets" dream scenario on everyone, but Dwight Howard to the Clippers would be pretty awesome. A front court with Howard and Griffin with a backup like Deandre Jordan is mind blowing. Opposing teams shouldn't expect to get any layups or rebounds with them. Plus they could swing Chris Kaman's expiring contract for an athletic 3 to go along with scorers Mo Williams and Eric Gordon. You're saying this team wouldn't be feared.

...then again, this would all help Donald Sterling get more money. On second thought...yeah, Howard and Deron Williams would be alright I guess.

So wait...is there still a case for Howard to win the MVP award?

Anonymous Anonymous said...
Aaron: no fair waiting until after the first round of the playoffs to rule on the MVP. After all, it's the MVP of the REGULAR SEASON, not the playoffs.

Also: Howard played well in the Magic wins and losses. Whatever case he had before the series shouldn't have weakened due to his performance against the Hawks. Hell, he even made free throws.

There is absolutely NO flow to the second half of this Spurs/Grizzlies game. Whistle after whistle. This is almost impossible to watch.

@Dan

Still, Spurs only down by 3 in what has felt like a 10 point Memphis lead.
Fasten your seat-belt, this one will be decided on another Ginobilli crazy shot.

Damn, I just jinxed the Spurs with my previous post. They were down only 3 with 3 minutes left in the 4th. Since then Memphis on an seven nothing run and game over.

My best wishes to Pop and co. even as a Laker fan is always sad to see the end of a great era.

Zach Randolph just flipped a switch and went into Beast Mode the last 10 minutes. Obscene. How can you defend him any better than Antonio McDyess did on some of those shots he sank??? Ridiculous.

Post updated to reflect the new Sunday schedule.

@ Dan

Watching Randolph in the last 4 minutes was almost like watching Shaq back in 99. Once he caught the ball you knew he was gonna score no matter how well he was being defended. Amazing indeed.

It was weird watching the Spurs go down in flames in the 4th without Duncan getting any post ups. Meanwhile, Memphis was throwing it into Z-Beast and watching him trample all in his path.

I knew Spurs are going to lose. Parker is lost without her bimbo (someone please bring her back to him), i even forgot her name. He is a non factor after he was caught cheating, timmy is older, manu can't win a game by himself, no bench, and the Nets suckitude wonder around the spurs lockers in the form of RJ.

there's something wrong with posting comments when logged into gmail, i am getting error after error even for visiting the comments. It works when i chose name and url instead of google account.

The only stat you need to know:

Points in the paint: Grizz 62, Spurs 38.

I'm not one for conspiracies, but help me out here. Memphis just beat the top seeded Spurs in 6. Their reward? They have to travel on Saturday to Oklahoma City to play the Thunder early Sunday afternoon. Meanwhile, the Lakers and the Mavericks beat their opponents in 6, but get three days rest, as they finished their business on Thursday night and don't play again until late Monday night (3 full days). OKC get a slight pass, they took care of the Nuggets in 5 and saved themselves a game. But what did Memphis do to get this kind of treatment from the NBA? They beat the Spurs, a ratings killer if there ever was one, gave the Lakers Pau Gasol (ratings shot through the roof once they were good again), and now they basically going to be cannon fodder for a rested Thunder team.

Seriously, I hope Memphis beats the Thunder, just to really screw things up. I haven't even touched on how much space the Celtics and Heat are getting just so they can get ABC airtime. Yes, the playoff schedule always sucks.

I laughed when I saw that everyone (even twitter has it trending) is saying that Zach Randolph looks like Eddie Winslow from Family Matters. It's so true.

Also ZBo was super clutch tonight. It's clear he's been eating his wheaties.

Anonymous Mladen said...
I think I just had a basketball-related orgasm. Seriously: the Spurs destroyed by a super-clutch beastly Zach Randolph? I must be in heaven.

I consider this divine retribution for the Suns, Hornets, and even the Jazz and the Cavaliers. May the Spurs never rise from their grave.

WV. imphistr. do we have an imphistr playing this season in memphis instead of z-bo?

"A day after the Blazers' season ends against Dallas, Brandon Roy looks ahead to next season, saying he hopes he can return to an All-Star level, even if he won't ever be "the old Brandon Roy" again."

He was barely an all star before, no with know knees he hopes to get back to being an all star, but his not brandon roy anymore?

Poor guy, he doesn't even make sense anymore.

ZACH FREAKING RANDOLPH! THE BAWFUL GODS HAVE SPOKEN!!

He's the one. No doubt about it. What a show.

Anonymous Batmanu said...
I... don't know what to do now. My team has been eliminated. Zach "Jadakiss" Randolph hit everything he threw up there. Every time, I was like "GREAT D DICE! He's gonna miss this one!"

And nothing but net. Ugh.

I guess I now have to either root for the Grizz to win the whole thing (I hate losing, but I'd feel a LITTLE better if the team that beat us went all the way) or the Thunder, since I like them. I guess Chicago would be a good third choice, but I've always been a Western COnference guy.

@ Jacob - Dwight to the Spurs would be ORGASMIC.

@ Insignificant Knowledge - Wow, what a find. lmao

I'm just looking forward to whoever Tony Allen decides to guard

That'd mean we'd have to give up Bynum. It'd be an odd trade if anything since the Lakers have something to lose and something to gain.

Though to be fair he'd be a good choice considering how prone to injury Bynum is.

baron davis was everybodys main man when the warriors kicked the mavs 1st seeded ass. Now he's just a nice beard. I somhow expect to see the old z-bo resurrected in the next year or so

ok. i wonder one thing.
in the past, the MVP was usually announced by this time, before the end of round 1. but this year, nothing. that's why i posted earlier here about whether there is still a case for Howard to get the MVP. like that year Dirk won...he was the MVP, then later he lost in round 1.
so the ceremony was very awkward.

clearly, nba delayed the announcement this year to avoid that awkwardness.

Anonymous Adrià said...
kazam92: Agreed on Tony Allen's defense, it was a perfect sample.

It looks weird that Zach Randolph hadn't been at the All-Star. We'll see what happens next year. I hope he keeps up his motivation, even if he gets a new concak.

Anonymous kazam92 said...
He actually made his FIRST all-star team last year. This year he got snubbed for (guess who) Duncan even though Randolph trounced him in every stat but wins. Maybe a little revenge for that?

Anonymous Adrià said...
Maybe a little, haha! I guess it's the past years' weight...
I forgot to write "this year" in my all-star statement. I didn't check it out.

My 50$ go to an Allen-Westbrook matchup, and... Durant-Battier?
This is going to be interesting, every rebound will be like WWII (Randolph, Gasol, Perkins, Ibaka all under the same rim).

How do you feel about this Heat-Celtics series? Are you confident? I didn't expect the Celtics to sweep the Knicks, frankly, the Heat-Sixers series went on the predicted track. If it goes to 7 games, it's going to be a coin flip. In 6 games I'd choose the green ones, I just think they have more options to decide a game.

Blogger The Dude Abides said...
The year Dirk won the MVP, it was announced between the first and second rounds. That's why he was so crestfallen at the press conference.

Anonymous kazam92 said...
Adria, I can't say I am confident. The punching bag Knicks gave the green machine their swagger back. We didn't play well enough vs. Philly to advance any farther if we continue to play like that. If we win game 1, then I think it could go a long way towards how we do play later on. If we beat the Celtics, we can beat anyone. The Bulls will be tough, but no one in the West really scares me the way the C's do.
